 | | Alea is a space devoted to contemporary jewellery, with a bold, permanent schedule commited to the most innovative jewellery. A type of jewellery in which the creative message of the artist is of the foremost importance, even more so than the physical materials, and with which the user establishes a special relation, creating an intimate and unique ornament.
Alea has a clear goal to be a dynamic and accessible space, where expositions of local and foreign jewellers throughout the year help bring contemporary jewellery to the street. The gallery has two different rooms; one shows permanently the jewellery of Enric Majoral and the other is devoted to emerging young contemporanean jewellers.
The gallery organizes 4 or 5 exhibitions per year and has also permanently work of our artists.
Alea opened in 2.000 in Barcelona in the El Born area, near to Picasso’s Museum and Santa Maria del Mar church.
A bit of history of our area... Our street is called Argenteria wich means in catalan street of silver craftmanship. In this old street were located the jewellers when Barcelona was still walled and all the crafmen were not allowed to work inside the walls. During the Middle Ages Argenteria was a busy way from the former Barcelona port up to the big gate in the fortified city, where all traders that visited the city used to bought silver presents to bring back home.
